This was very
much "after the Lord Mayor's show" for Gonerby who had
won the league the week before.
Missing influential midfield player Billy Gray they started slowly
and were 2-0 down on 10 minutes.
They rallied well though and created plenty of chances to get
back in the game in the first half but went in 3-0 down at the
break thanks to Barrowby's superior finishing. Ben Hadlow was
extremely unlucky with his penalty claim and Cameron McIntosh
went close with a header from a Luke Bond corner.
Gonerby played some bright football in the second period and the
introduction of Jake Wood gave them more menace up front. Ben
Hadlow hit the bar with a header and Luke Bond scored a quality
goal as he turned inside the box and curled the ball into the
far right hand top corner.
Barrowby got the last goal of the day though to make the game
safe with a rasping effort from 25 yards.
Daniel Hibbert was very confident throughout in the Gonerby goal
and Danny Williams enjoyed an energetic display at right back.

Gonerby stormed
to victory to win the Grantham Under 11 league with a game still
to go.
This means that they are the only team to have won the under 8,
9, 10 and 11 Grantham Youth Leagues.
Plenty of chances were missed by the home team early on but Stephen
Clarke calmed the Gonerby nerves on 10 minutes with the first
goal shortly followed by second by Luke Bond. Clarke then completed
his hat-trick before half time and Bond grabbed his 22nd of the
season on 28 minutes.
The second half saw continued Gonerby pressure with Jake Wood,
Clarke again and Liam Geeson all on the home scoresheet. Stephen
Clarke's tally for the season is now an incredible 73!
To their credit Navenby battled to the end though but couldn't
grab a consolation goal and late on Ryan Smith wrapped up matters
at 9-0.
Billy Gray and Ben Hadlow again had fine games in midfield and
were responsible for setting up the majority of the goals.

Gonerby were
denied a hat-trick of Knockout Cup wins by a resilient Long Bennington
side who grabbed a late equaliser to take the game into extra
time.
Gonerby started well with a 5 man midfield and went close through
Stephen Clarke and Billy Gray.
Ryan Smith and Jake Wood were introduced to the frontline at the
start of the second period which coincided with an excellent period
of Gonerby pressure resulting in a superb individual goal by Ben
Hadlow who cut in from the right wing to float an excellent finish
into the Bennington far post.
Gonerby thought they had the cup secured with 10 minutes left
as Stephen Clarke's effort from outside the box lobbed the Bennington
keeper but his effort went agonisingly over the bar.
Long Bennington challenged right up until the death though and
after obtaining a contentious free-kick on the edge of the box
grabbed an equaliser as the referee allowed the kick to be taken
twice following encroachment from the Gonerby wall.
Extra time was played and still both sides couldn't be separated
so a penalty shootout followed.
Long Bennington were the victors as they scored 3 goals against
Gonerby's 2. Gonerby's scorers were Billy Gray and Matt Peberdy.
The effort from the whole Gonerby side was second to none but
Billy Gray and Cameron McIntosh shared the man of the match award
with outstanding displays.
Daniel Hibbert was safe throughout in the Gonerby goal and Danny
Williams produced an excellent performance at right back.

work from Jake Wood.
Luke Bond then got on the scoresheet and added two more late on

This was a
closely contested contest and could have gone either way.
It was a great advert for the Grantham League with the game being
played in a great spirit by all team members.
Gonerby took the field with an attacking line-up with Liam Geeson
retaining his place on the left of midfield and Ryan Smith playing
in the centre of midfield with Billy Gray up front with Stephen
Clarke.
Bennington dominated for the first quarter of an hour though and
went close to scoring on a couple of occasions so Gray was dropped
back into midfield to give the home side a little more bite in
the middle of the park and Gonerby then came more and more into
the game. Ryan Smith was unlucky not to break the deadlock for
the home team and a dangerous Billy Gray corner was cleared off
the Bennington line after a goalmouth scramble. Gonerby went in
1-0 to the good though when Luke Bond's long range effort was
mis-judged by the Bennington keeper and sneaked into the corner
of the net.
Sam Baker came on for Ryan Smith and Jake Wood was added to the
home frontline giving Gonerby an injection of pace up front for
the second period.
Clarke was close to making the game safe as he sprung the Bennington
offside trap but his shot cleared the away team bar and Bennington
enjoyed more and more possession as the game developed. They grabbed
an equaliser with 15 minutes to go as Daniel Hibbert was unlucky
tracking back as he tried to scope the ball from off the Gonerby
goal-line but the ball was already adjudged to have crossed the
line by the home referee's assistant.
Both sides had chances to win it with Alex McIntosh's long range
effort nearly making it 2-1 to Gonerby but late on he cleared
off the home goal line as both sides had to settle for a draw.

Honours were even at half time with Leasingham having an effort
cleared off the line by Cameron McIntosh and Stephen Clarke was
unlucky not to open the scoring in a one on one situation. The
Leasingham keeper had a fine game and when Gonerby did have the
ball in the goal in the first half it was ruled out by a marginal
offside decision.
In the second half Gonerby dominated in periods and took the lead
when Stephen Clark rifled home from 18 yards.
2 minutes later Clarke added another with a fine lob and he claimed
his hat-trick later on with a fine right foot curling effort that
crept in after hitting the post and keeper. This now takes his
tally to 57 for the season.
Leasingham worked hard though and got their reward with a crisp
finish inside the Gonerby area as the away defence were unable
to clear the ball.

This was an
important win for Gonerby which now takes them 8 points clear
of Harrowby who lie in 3rd place with 6 league games to go.
Gonerby created the early chances and took the lead through Sam
Baker who latched onto an excellent through ball from Luke Bond
to slide the ball home past Harrowby's keeper. Baker was then
unlucky not to add a second as his effort did not have enough
power to cross the line and was cleared by a Harrowby defender.
Gonerby pressed home their advantage in the first half and had
a string of corners with Matt Peberdy scoring direct from one
just before half time.
Harrowby rallied in the 2nd half and got their reward from a period
of pressure as a through ball was prodded home against the advancing
Liam Geeson who was deputising in the Gonerby goal with regular
keeper Daniel Hibbert injured. During the game both sides had
a couple of penalty calls denied but Gonerby made the game safe
late on when Jake Wood steered home after a Stephen Clarke effort
had been well saved by the Harrowby keeper.
Gonerby played well at the back and worked hard in midfield throughout.
Liam Geeson had a very steady game in the home goal and showed

Billy Gray lead the line well and was unlucky not to claim the

The next chance feel to Jake Wood who left the home defence for
dead and slotted home having run half the lenght of the pitch.
Gonerby then had corner after corner but could not make the advantage
count.
Gray added another before the break though after another long
run and the advantage was 2-0 at half time.
Barrowby looked more potent in the second period with the wind

Hibbert was on hand to produce an excellent reflex stop to keep

Gonerby then produced 3 clear chances before reclaiming the 2

Luke Bond, Ben Hadlow and Sam Baker all enjoyed fine games in

Danny Williams then scored a scorcher in reply for Gonerby, as

penalty high to the right of the keeper.

the home team and Barrowby claimed an equaliser from the resulting
set-piece.
Jake Wood then produced many a darting run to open up the play
for Gonerby and was unlucky not to score in 3 one-on-one situations.
Fortunately the next chance fell to the in-form Clarke who produced
the goal of the day to latch onto a through-ball and blast in
off the post to make it 3-2 to Gonerby and take their tally at
the half-way point of the season to 9 wins out of 10.

Gonerby went
into this game seeking goals to add to their goal difference and
pitched an attacking line-up with only 3 players playing at the
back. This had the desired effect offensively with 18 goals being
scored but without regular keeper Daniel Hibbert they leaked an
unaccustomed 3 goals.
They took the lead within 30 seconds thanks to the in-form Ben
Hadlow who soon added another to make it 2.
Stephen Clarke was soon on the scoresheet to make it 3 and Ryan
Smith was on hand under the Croxton bar to make it 4.
Billy Gray produced a fine run and finish to take the tally to
5 and Liam Geeson chipped in with 5 minutes of the first half
left to make it 6 and Sam Baker notched his 10th of the season
to make it 7. A goal-keeping error gifted Croxton a consolation
before halt-time as the sides went in 1-7 at the break.
Ben Hadlow started brightly again in the second half and notched
2 goals to take his tally to 4 and top scorer Stephen Clarke took
the tally to double figures. Jake Wood then enjoyed a run up front
claiming 2 quick goals before Hadlow make it 5 goals for himself
with 15 minutes left.
Clarke then claimed his hat-trick before Sam Baker scored a fine
2nd to claim his brace.
Croxton then replied after Sam Pickering was harshly adjudged
to have completed a back-pass to stand-in keeper Danny Williams
and Croxton scored from the resulting free-kick in the box.
Jake Wood then finished off a flowing move with a confident finish
to make it 16-2 and Stephen Clarke took his tally to 37 for the
season with his 4th of the day.
Late on Jake Wood grabbed his 4th goal of the day and Croxton
got another late reply to make it 18-3 at the death.

Gonerby took the lead early on through Billy Gray and soon added
another as Cameron McIntosh scored having stayed upfield for a
Luke Bond corner.
Ben Hadlow scored from outside the box to make it 3 and Luke Bond
finished confidently from 12 yards out to make it 4. Billy Gray
then claimed his brace and top-scorer Stephen Clarke was on hand
from the penalty spot to make it 6.
Just before half time Bond finished well again to make it 7.
Sam Baker got his reward for some eager running to take the score
to 8 early in the second half and Liam Geeson was on hand from
close range soon after to make it 9. Ryan Smith scored goal number
10 and Stephen Clarke rifled home from inside the 6 yard box to
take the tally to 12.
The Yellows then took Daniel Hibbert out of goal in an attempt
to get him a goal and he duly obliged with a side-foot finish

have scored this season.
Late on Liam Geeson grabbed another goal to notch a brace.

Gonerby attack and indeed he fired them in front within 5 minutes
as he out-paced the Bennington rear-guard and slotted home.
Ryan Smith made it 2 before half time as he tapped in from close

Bennington had more of the game in the second half and went close
to scoring on a couple of occasions but Luke Bond and Billy Gray
continued to win the midfield battle and when Clarke added a 3rd

This was a
closely fought contest with Gonerby given a mountain to climb
after going 2-0 down in the first half.
A rare goalkeeping error gave Harrowby the lead after 15 minutes
and when a deep cross found it's way into the Gonerby net before
half-time the away team were left to chase the game.
It could have been a different story, however, as Sam Baker was
unlucky not to score from a header late in the half and top-goalscorer
Stephen Clarke was put through one-on-one against the Harrowby
keeper but shot wide.
Gonerby played a more direct game in the second half and spurned
two more one-on-ones through Jake Wood and Clarke but Harrowby
scored with their first shot of the second half to make it 3.
To their credit Gonerby's heads never dropped and Stephen Clarke
got them back into the game with a cool finsh with 15 minutes
to go and Billy Gray then broke forward with a fine run and finish
to set up a rousing and tense end to the game.
Late on Stephen Clarke's sole effort was well saved by the Harrowby
keeper to keep the points intact for the home side.
Ryan Smith had an excellent game on the left and nullified the
effect of Harrowby's right wing and Danny Williams caught the
eye in defence with a very steady game at right-back.

Liam Geeson had an impressive game, taking full advantage of his

4.
Stephen Clarke then stroked home a penalty to make it 5 and Matt

Sam Baker got his reward for a tireless display when he notched
the 7th and Ryan Smith scored goal number 8, poking home from

In the second half the Yellows were able to experiment in some
positions and soon grabbed another goal when Liam Geeson notched
