The Reds finished the
season with a fine display to earn the 1 point they needed to
finish in fourth place in the league.Ketton who came second in
the league beat The Reds 4.1 at the begining of the season so
this result shows just how much Gonerby Reds have improved.
In the first period Gonerby started slowly allowing Ketton to
score first,a defensive mix up ended with a forward to score from
a tight angle. The Reds leveled two minutes later Thomas Andersen
broke down the right his shot was saved but Nathan Lane slotted
home the rebound.
The Reds started the second period very well Jonathan Law and
Lewis Daff both had good chances but there shots were saved,in
defence Keaton Willis and Liam Clamp were outstanding and kept
the Ketton forwards quiet.
Going into the third quarter the game was evenly matched both
teams continued to press but both defences stood firm.Alex Geeson
created chances for Benjamin Barretto and then Lewis Daff but
the Ketton keeper saved well. The Reds played some nice football
passing the ball well and creating good goalscoring chances.
The final ten minutes was end to end Thomas Andersen had a great
shot saved by the Ketton keeper and then he denied Jonathan Law
when he broke clear.Liam Clamp defended very well for the reds
and with Keaton Willis and Ben Barretto along side him the game
ended in a draw.
Gonerby Reds exceded all expectations this season,to finish 4th
in there first season and in an under 8s league is a great performance.Credit
to the players, and with the support of there parents Dave and
myself are very proud of all of them.

Gonerby Reds
were very unfortunate not to get a share of the points against
The Yellows on sunday in a game that was a credit to both teams.People
seem to forget Gonerby Reds are only an under 7 team but they
out battled there opponents for most of the game only to lose
to a late goal.
In the first period the game was evenly matched with both teams
having early chances but both were squandered,Benjamin Barretto
in the Gonerby Reds goal was kept busy dealing with shots and
crosses but never looked like being beaten.Thomas Andersen and
Jonathan Law were tackling hard in midfield and not allowing the
Yellows players any time on the ball. When the the Yellows broke
Liam Clamp along side Keaton Willis stood firm to keep the score
0.0 at the break.
The second period followed the same pattern as the first with
Gonerby Yellows going close on occasions but never troubled Barretto
in the Reds goal.Lewis Daff and Alex Geeson combined well to set
up Nathan Lane with a chance for the Reds but good defending stopped
his effort.Again the Reds battled hard in midfield not allowing
the Yellows to play any football at all.
In the third quarter the Yellows struck the woodwork and then
went close on 2 more occasions and then at the other end Law went
clear but shot wide after good work again from Andersen and Daff. The
reds defence stood firm to some pressure with Clamp and Barretto
doing really well at the back.
Going into the final 10 minutes both teams tried to win the game
Andersen down the right and Lane down the left pushed forward
trying to create chances for Law and Geeson but neither were taken. With
five minutes left the deadlock was broken Gonerby Reds failed
to clear the ball and were punished when the ball was fired home
by Hubbard the Yellows striker.Barretto went close in the final
moments for the Reds but his shot was saved by the Yellows keeper. The
final whistle went and both sets of parents gave both teams a
round of applause on a great game of football
Man of the Match this week was impossible to pick with all 8 of
the Reds producing great performances, considering the age difference
and with 2 of the Reds still 6 years old,to run one of the best
under 8 team in the area so close was a credit to all involved.

wind blew from start to finish but both teams played well to share
the points. The Blues started well, with the wind at there backs, pressed

the Reds denied the forwards.Alex Geeson in goal for the Reds
saved well from a corner but just before the end of the first

The Reds started the second half well Thomas Andersen went close
with a shot and then Jonathan Law had the ball in the back of
the net but he was judged to have been fouled before he shot.Keaton
Willis and Benjamin Barretto worked hard in midfield for the Reds
but the score remained 1 0 to the Blues at half time.
The Reds now had the wind at there backs and were well on top
but couldnt score.Thomas Andersen swung corner after corner in
but the Blues defended well. Then with two minutes left Alex Geeson
slotted home after a Reds corner to level the scores.
In the final period both teams pushed forward to try to win the
game Lewis Daff went close for the Reds and at the other end Benjamin
Barretto made a fantastic save to keep out a well struck shot.Thomas
Andersen was creating chances for the Reds but none were converted
and then with 5 minutes left a poor clearance from the Reds defence
landed at the feet of a Blues forward who fired home well. The
Reds pushed forward in the final minutes and were rewarded when

when firstly Alex Geeson failed to connect with a cross from Thomas
Andersen then Nathan Lane and then Jonathan law forced saves from
the Ponton keeper.Liam Clamp in defence for the Reds played very

.Gonerby started well forcing an early corner but were hit on
the counter attack when a Ketton forward took advantage of a defensive
error to open the scoring. In the second period the home team settled
down with Jonathan Law and Lewis Daff creating chances for Harry
Smith but the keeper saved both efforts.Going into the third period
Gonerby began to gain the upper hand Alex Geeson going close twice
before Thomas Andersen levelled things with a shot from outside
the box giving the keeper no chance. Two minutes after scoring
Gonerby conceded a second goal, seemingly still celebrating the
equaliser, the Ketton number 6 dribbled through the defence and
slotted home.In the final period the home team pressed forward
with Benjamin Barretto doing well on the right wing and Owen Yates
along with Liam Clamp trying to keep Ketton at bay.Nathen Lane
got some good crosses in from the left but Ketton proved to strong
in the end scoring 2 more goals late on both giving keeper Reuben
Savill no chance.
